Vice President Sara Duterte has issued a strong statement today, September 24, expressing deep concern and outrage over what she calls a disturbing incident involving former President Rodrigo Duterte.

According to the Vice President, officials from the Philippine Embassy in The Hague recently submitted a report to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. concerning a visit they made to the former president. Vice President Duterte claims the officials gained access to Duterte's detention unit under the guise of a "welfare check," a move she describes as a clear abuse of the rules for consular visits.

She pointed out that since March, family members have been regularly visiting former President Duterte, ensuring his well-being and humane treatment. Vice President Duterte stated that allowing government agents who she says are from the very administration that abducted her father to visit him without the family's permission puts his life and safety in "imminent danger."

The Vice President warned that if these "sham 'welfare checks'" continue, the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the Philippine government will be held accountable for any harm that comes to the former president, including his death. She directly accused President Marcos of disguising these visits as consular functions.

"FPRRD does not need you, our family will take care of him," she wrote.

In her statement, she also called out the Philippine government for what she sees as a double standard, noting that many other Overseas Filipinos in distress around the world have not received a single welfare check from the government.

"We, Filipinos, deserve better," Vice President Duterte concluded.
