Visayas Goes Digital: Paleng-QR PH Plus Launched In Four Towns
The Paleng-QR Ph Plus program, a major push for digital payments, has officially been rolled out in four key municipalities across the Visayas.
Residents and businesses in San Francisco, Poro, and Tudela in Cebu, and Panay in Capiz can now use QR Ph, the national standard for Quick Response codes, to complete transactions. The program is specifically targeting public markets, public transportation, and various other local businesses to encourage a shift from cash to digital payments.
The Paleng-QR Ph Plus initiative is designed to modernize payment systems, making transactions faster, safer, and more convenient for both vendors and customers.
A significant part of the launch included an account opening activity organized by participating financial service providers. The goal was to help attendees-particularly market vendors and tricycle drivers-establish their own transaction accounts. Having these accounts opens up wider access to a range of financial services and products, promoting greater financial inclusion.
This latest expansion in the Visayas adds to the growing number of adopters nationwide. Currently, more than 200 local government units across the country have already launched the Paleng-QR Ph Plus program, signaling a strong national momentum toward a "cash-lite" economy.
What is QR Ph?
QR Ph is the common QR code standard adopted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Philippine Payments Management, Inc. (PPMI). It allows users to make payments and transfer funds seamlessly across different banks and financial institutions, provided they are part of the QR Ph network.
