Alas Pilipinas announced heartbreaking news today — the passing of Ike Barilea, a rising volleyball star who left an indelible mark on Philippine volleyball. He was only 21 years old.

“The court feels emptier, and our hearts heavier. Rest easy, 🇵🇭ALAS IKE BARILEA. Thank you for the laughter, the memories, and the heart you gave to the team. Heaven gained an angel, but we lost a piece of ours. Fly high, our dear ALAS,” the team wrote in a touching post.

Barilea, born November 9, 2004, hailed from Negros and quickly rose through the ranks of the sport. He first turned heads during the 2025 U21 National Finals, where he led 1Silay Volleyball Club to a bronze finish.

His stellar play earned him a spot in the initial Alas Pilipinas Men’s pool for the 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship, where he trained alongside some of the country’s best athletes.

Barilea also played for Cignal in the 2025 AVC Men’s Champions League in Japan and previously suited up for Santa Rosa City during the 2022 Spikers’ Turf season.

Friends, teammates, and fans remember Ike as a dedicated athlete whose passion, energy, and heart inspired everyone around him — both on and off the court.
