The countdown to the spellbinding finale begins.
In a newly released teaser for Wicked: For Good, the much-anticipated conclusion to the two-part musical film adaptation, stars Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba) and Ariana Grande (Glinda) reflect on how their characters have evolved—and what’s at stake as they face the final leg of their journey.
“In Wicked: For Good, they’re both stepping into this new space in their lives,” said Cynthia Erivo, “and I think that actually makes them all the more powerful.”
This sequel, directed by Jon M. Chu, picks up the threads left by the first film but shifts into deeper emotional territory. “It’s a much more mature emotional journey,” Chu added. “It’s about the consequences of the hard choices that you make.”
The story builds on the complex relationship between Elphaba and Glinda—one that has weathered political divides, personal betrayals, and the cost of standing up for what’s right. As Cynthia put it, “What they had in film one can never come back again, and what they have to move into is something very different.”
For Ariana, the heart of Wicked: For Good lies in that evolving bond. “We really just get to see how far we can push this friendship,” she said. “There’s nuance. There’s hurt. There’s forgiveness.” Cynthia echoed the sentiment, describing the final film as “wild, unbridled,” and above all, “epic.”
But this chapter isn’t just about friendship. It’s about legacy.
Audiences will finally see how Wicked ties into the classic Wizard of Oz narrative. “We get to see how these characters—like the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Lion—come to be,” Ariana teased. Cynthia added, “You now get to see what’s been happening away from Dorothy, how they end up where they are.” For longtime fans, this film offers a full-circle origin story of the witches—and the world—they shaped.
Director Jon M. Chu emphasized that Wicked: For Good isn’t just a conclusion—it’s a celebration of transformation. “The effect that we have on each other is forever,” he said. “We really wanted this movie to feel like an epic conclusion to a journey. And you get to the guts of what Wicked is all about.”
As for the final message, it’s one of hope and courage. “I hope that it encourages people to keep fighting for what they believe in,” Cynthia shared.
At its core, Wicked: For Good is about two women who “love each other so much,” Ariana said, “and they truly change each other for the better.”
Wicked: For Good opens in cinemas on November 21.
