Zaldy Co Resigns, Citing Death Threats And Imminent Danger To Family
Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Elizaldy S. Co has tendered his "irrevocable resignation" from the House of Representatives, effective immediately, citing a "real, direct, grave and imminent threat to the lives of my family members and me," alongside an "evident denial of my right to due process of law."

The resignation, formalized in a letter to the Speaker dated September 29, 2025, also serves as a comprehensive and vigorous rebuttal to an earlier Letter-Complaint filed by Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco.

Co confirmed the decision in a separate public statement, emphasizing the emotional toll: "Mabigat man sa aking puso, ako’y nagpaabot ng aking pagbibitiw bilang Kinatawan sa Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso," (Though it is heavy in my heart, I have submitted my resignation as Representative in the Lower House of Congress). He concluded that the move was carefully considered "for the good of my family and the people I continue to serve."

Denials on GAA, Ethics, and Conflict of Interest

In his response to the allegations, Rep. Co firmly denied all three main points raised against him, labeling the claims as "baseless accusations."

As a former Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, he "categorically denied" orchestrating or allowing any last-minute insertions in the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA). He stressed that the GAA's validity is currently subject to proceedings before the Supreme Court and the Ombudsman, making any ruling on the matter premature.

Addressing claims of ethics violations and unauthorized absences, Co refuted the need to submit medical certificates, noting that he has been "consulting doctors abroad since mid-2024" and continues to "render public service remotely."

He also pushed back against the charge of "extravagant or ostentatious display of wealth," maintaining his lifestyle has not changed and remains focused on the Ako Bicol Partylist's various projects.

Finally, Co denied acquiring any "personal pecuniary interest" from infrastructure projects awarded to Sunwest Inc., asserting that penalizing him based on Tiangco’s "mere speculation" constitutes a denial of due process.

Call for Seamless Transition

Rep. Co assured his colleagues that he is making arrangements for the immediate clearing of his office at the Batasang Pambansa to ensure a smooth turnover.

This, he stated, is necessary so that the "substitute nominee of the Ako Bicol Partylist may seamlessly transition into her or his role as its representative."

He concluded his public message by thanking his constituents: "Maraming salamat sa pagsuporta" (Thank you very much for the support).
