Romualdez Camp Denies Link To Alleged Discaya Property Deal

The camp of former Speaker of the House Ferdinand Martin Romualdez has strongly denied reports linking him to the Discaya family in an alleged property purchase, dismissing the claims as baseless and misleading.

In a statement released Wednesday, Jan. 14, Romualdez’s lawyer and spokesperson, Atty. Ade Fajardo, said the former Speaker had no knowledge of nor involvement in the supposed transaction. He stressed that Romualdez does not have any personal connection with the Discaya family and only became aware of their names through media reports.

“Rep. Romualdez has no knowledge nor involvement in the purported transaction. Rep. Romualdez has not met the Discayas and has only heard of them based on what is being said in media reports,” Fajardo said.

Fajardo also rejected allegations that the Discayas were used as “fronts” in a property deal, emphasizing that such claims have no factual basis.

To counter the reports, Romualdez’s camp cited official congressional records from a September 2025 House hearing, during which Curlee Discaya stated under oath that he had no direct transaction with Romualdez. According to Fajardo, Discaya further explained that Romualdez’s name had merely been “name-dropped” without the former Speaker’s knowledge or consent.

The issue resurfaced after Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee would look into persistent reports alleging that Romualdez used the Discayas as fronts in the purchase of a house and lot in an upscale Makati subdivision.

Responding to the planned inquiry, Fajardo reiterated that the accusations are unfounded and said Romualdez respects institutional processes, expressing confidence that a fair and evidence-based investigation will clear his name.
