Sandiganbayan Acquits Former QC Mayor Herbert Bautista In 2019 Solar Project Case

Former Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista is officially off the hook after the Sandiganbayan Third Division acquitted him in the graft case involving the city’s ₱25.34-million solar power project back in 2019.

According to the court, the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Bautista was guilty — leading to his full acquittal. With this ruling, the hold departure order issued against him has also been lifted.

But while Bautista walked free, the court found his former city administrator Aldrin Cuna guilty of graft. Cuna was sentenced to six to eight years in prison for his role in the project.

The case stemmed from accusations of irregularities in the solar power installation project funded by the Quezon City government. After reviewing the evidence, the court ruled that the allegations against Bautista were not strong enough to warrant a conviction.

Bautista is now cleared of the charges, while Cuna faces imprisonment as the legal process continues.
