Sandiganbayan Declares Zaldy Co A Fugitive; Orders Passport Cancelled

The Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division has taken a firm step against former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co and three members of Sunwest Inc.’s board, officially declaring them “fugitives from justice.” The court also ordered the immediate cancellation of their Philippine passports, a move meant to stop any further attempts to evade authorities.
In its ruling, the court said:
“fugitives from justice”
Co and the Sunwest officials are facing graft-related charges linked to an alleged irregular flood-control project. Authorities say the group left the country despite ongoing proceedings, prompting the court to tighten measures to ensure they are brought back to face the charges.
Government agencies have also been instructed to coordinate in monitoring their movements abroad and assist in efforts to secure their return.
With the passport cancellation now in effect, the pressure is on for Co and the Sunwest executives to finally face the cases filed against them.
