Senator Robin Padilla has stepped aside from his role as president of PDP Laban to fully dedicate himself to his work in the Senate as the 20th Congress prepares to open. The announcement was made today by the party, signaling a leadership shift as the legislative calendar gears up for a new chapter.
In line with PDP Laban’s internal rules, Executive Vice President Sebastian “Baste” Duterte will take over the presidency of the party. Duterte, who recently secured the position of vice mayor in Davao City in the May 2025 elections, will assume leadership responsibilities under the party’s rule of succession.
Senator Padilla shared that he had poured his efforts into campaigning for the party’s candidates during the recently concluded elections and now feels it’s time to shift his focus back to lawmaking.
“My goal is to dedicate my attention to my responsibilities as a senator, especially as we prepare for the opening of the 20th Congress,” Padilla said in a letter addressed to PDP Laban Vice Chairman Alfonso Cusi.
He added that the demands of the recent campaign season had taken a significant toll on his time and energy, making it necessary to step back from party leadership to ensure he can give his full attention to his Senate duties.
Despite relinquishing the presidency, Padilla emphasized that his commitment to PDP Laban remains strong. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and to its chairman, former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, expressing continued support for the party’s vision and legislative goals.
The transition comes as PDP Laban navigates a shifting political landscape and prepares to assert its presence in the 20th Congress under new leadership.
