It was more than just a groundbreaking ceremony—it was a promise for a better tomorrow.
Speaker Martin Romualdez on Tuesday gave his full assurance that the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) will continue receiving government funding in the years to come. And for him, it’s not just about building another hospital wing—it’s about investing in the future of Filipino children.
“This facility is a big help because it shows how much we value the health and lives of our youth,” Romualdez said, as he led the capsule-laying and groundbreaking for PCMC’s new 20-story Advanced Pediatric Services building in Quezon City.
The new building, part of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s Legacy Specialty Hospitals program, will house a 500-bed capacity, modern equipment, and specialized services for critical pediatric diseases—everything from cancer to brain and spine conditions. In short, it’s a lifeline for thousands of kids facing life-threatening illnesses.
Romualdez stressed that this isn’t just a government project—it’s a continuation of a dream. A dream that began in 1979 when then-First Lady Imelda Marcos built PCMC (formerly Lungsod ng Kabataan) to serve as a sanctuary for children needing specialized care. “This isn’t the beginning or the end—it’s a continuation of a vision,” he said.
He also pointed out how significant it was that another Marcos is now in office to bring this dream back to life. “It took another Marcos in Malacañang to bring this vision to reality again,” he added.
But beyond the speeches and the blueprints, what touched many was Romualdez’s personal connection to the young patients and their families. He took the time to talk to parents, listen to their worries, and hear the dreams of children battling illness—kids who still hope to become teachers, architects, and changemakers.
“As a father, I understand the pain and worry of seeing a child suffer,” he shared. “But these aren’t just stories of sickness. They’re stories of resilience and hope.”
Romualdez emphasized that continued funding for PCMC is more than just a line item in the budget—it’s a moral obligation. “As long as there are children fighting, Congress will be here to support them. No conditions, no hesitation.”
He ended with a powerful reminder: “In the Bagong Pilipinas we’re building, the health and life of every child is a priority. Because in every child’s life lies the future of our nation.”
And with that, the foundation was laid—not just for a building, but for hope. For healing. And for a future where every sick child knows they are never alone.
