Suarez: House Supermajority Shows PBBM's Unity Call Isn't Just A Slogan - It's Working

Looks like President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s call for unity is hitting the mark—at least in the halls of Congress.

According to Deputy Speaker David “Jayjay” Suarez, the massive 285-member supermajority now backing Speaker Martin Romualdez is proof that unity isn't just talk anymore—it's the new standard. And he says it's all thanks to Romualdez’s steady, results-driven leadership.

“This is the most cohesive and confident House we’ve seen in decades,” Suarez shared, pointing out that out of the 285 lawmakers who expressed support, 279 have already signed a manifesto backing Romualdez as leader of the 20th Congress.

What makes this supermajority stand out? It’s not just the numbers, says Suarez—it’s the trust. Political groups across the spectrum, from the Liberal Party to Lakas-CMD, NUP, NPC, PFP, and even the Party-list Coalition, are rallying together. Why? Suarez believes it’s because Romualdez has transformed how Congress operates—more efficient, more collaborative, and more focused on real public service.

“President Marcos called for unity. Speaker Romualdez delivered it—not just in words, but in action,” Suarez said, highlighting how productive the 19th Congress has been under Romualdez’s leadership.

Here’s the kicker: from July 2022 to May 2025, the House processed an average of 14 measures per session day and passed over 230 laws. That's no small feat. Plus, they wrapped up the entire Common Legislative Agenda of the Marcos administration—talk about beating deadlines.

Among the key laws passed? The Maharlika Investment Fund, Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act, Magna Carta for Seafarers, and the New Agrarian Emancipation Act—all geared towards boosting the economy, securing our food supply, protecting seafarers, and giving our farmers a break.

“Romualdez quietly built a partnership with Malacañang that actually worked. He’s not flashy, but he’s effective—and that’s what lawmakers respect,” Suarez added.

And it's not just about passing laws. Suarez says the Speaker’s style—disciplined yet inclusive, decisive yet consultative—has reshaped the environment in the House. It’s no longer a place for political drama, but one for real work and collective progress.

“In the end, this isn’t just about the Speaker. It’s about a generation of leaders choosing unity over division, and putting the Filipino people first,” Suarez said.

So as the 20th Congress kicks off, it’s clear: unity isn’t just a campaign promise anymore. It’s a working formula—one that’s bringing real results to the table.
