Suspected Human Bones Found Near Taal Lake Spur Search For Missing Cockfighting Enthusiasts

Authorities are intensifying efforts in Laurel, Batangas, after suspected human bones were discovered in a vacant lot near the shores of Taal Lake — a chilling development in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of several cockfighting enthusiasts.
On July 10, an inter-agency team composed of the Department of Justice (DOJ), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and Philippine National Police (PNP) launched a coordinated operation at Taal Lake. The search aims to follow up on leads suggesting that the missing men may have been dumped in the lake.
The Philippine Coast Guard confirmed that all equipment needed for underwater technical diving and site assessment is ready. “We have equipment in place, and we had already established the staging area last night, as well as the operational steps for the underwater search,” said Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla, Commander of the PCG Southern Tagalog District.
According to Tuvilla, the team has set up a command post and deployed aerial drones to assist in the operation. The inter-agency effort follows a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to pursue the case vigorously and leave no lead unexplored.
The suspected bones found earlier in a nearby vacant lot raised alarm among residents and investigators alike, though authorities have yet to confirm if they indeed belong to any of the missing cockfighting enthusiasts.
Investigators hope today’s technical dive will yield crucial evidence to shed light on the mystery that has gripped the community and the families of the victims. Authorities emphasized that the assessment of the lakebed is a critical step in validating witness accounts and other investigative leads.
As the search continues, officials appeal to the public for patience and cooperation, assuring that every possible angle is being examined to bring justice and closure to the case.
