Termination Of Northeast Monsoon Signals Onset Of Warm And Dry Season
File
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced today the termination of the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) as the High-Pressure Area over Siberia retreats. This shift signifies the transition into the warm and dry season, with changes expected in weather patterns across the country.

According to meteorological experts, the strengthening of the North Pacific High has prompted a gradual shift in wind patterns from northeasterly to easterly, accompanied by rising temperatures in most parts of the Philippines. This transition marks the end of the Northeast Monsoon, which typically brings cool and dry air from Siberia to the region.

In the coming months, the country can anticipate an increase in dry and warm days, with occasional isolated thunderstorms likely to occur, primarily in the afternoon or evening hours. The public is advised to remain vigilant and continue precautionary measures to mitigate heat stress, optimize water usage for personal and domestic needs, and minimize health risks associated with the changing climate conditions.

Furthermore, the ongoing El Niño phenomenon is expected to exacerbate the dry conditions, leading to reduced rainfall and potential droughts in various parts of the country. This poses significant challenges for climate-sensitive sectors such as water resources, agriculture, energy, health, and public safety.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - PAGASA emphasizes the importance of monitoring weather and climatic conditions closely to anticipate and mitigate potential impacts. They urge the public and concerned government agencies to stay updated on relevant updates and advisories issued by PAGASA to effectively manage the challenges posed by the changing weather patterns.
