Who's The Real Scammer? Duterte Slams Marcos Over 'Conflicting Statements'

Vice President Sara Duterte recently accused President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. of exhibiting the hallmark of a scammer, questioning his consistency and sincerity as the country’s leader. Her statement has reignited tensions between the former running mates from the 2022 elections.
Speaking in an interview, Duterte did not mince words:
“It’s a conflicting statement truly, the very first day of administration in fact. He has not followed through on any of his campaign promises, and that is an example of the conflict with regard to our President. We are not surprised—he has the hallmark of a scammer.”
The vice president’s comments come in response to the Palace’s earlier position on her possible impeachment, in which they stated that President Marcos would not engage in any dialogue regarding the issue. Duterte, however, views this stance as yet another contradiction in a long list of inconsistencies she claims have defined his administration.
Malacañang, meanwhile, dismissed Duterte’s allegations without offering a direct rebuttal. Instead, they turned the accusation around, asking:
“Budol? Talaga? Hindi ko alam. Sino ba ang nambubudol sa nakikita po natin na pagtatrabaho ng pangulo, sa pag-uuto sa amin na mag-focus sa trabaho at hindi sa pamumulitika? Sino ba talaga ang nambubudol?”
(“Scammer? Really? I don’t know. Who’s really deceiving the people when we see the president working, urging us to focus on governance and not on politics? Who’s the real scammer here?”)
The exchange marks a dramatic escalation in what many observers view as an ongoing political rift between two of the most powerful figures in the country. It also raises broader concerns about governance, transparency, and the stability of the Marcos-Duterte alliance that once seemed solid during the campaign trail.
With public trust and national priorities at stake, the question hanging in the air now is not just about impeachment—but credibility. As the political drama unfolds, the Filipino people are left asking: Who can they truly believe?
