A Closer Look At Today's Weather: What To Expect This July 8

This morning, the 24-hour public weather forecast from PAGASA highlights the continuing influence of the southwest monsoon across the country. As of 4:00 AM today, July 8, the monsoon is bringing cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms to several areas, while most of the remaining regions can expect fairer but still occasionally wet weather.

In Metro Manila, as well as the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Batanes, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Antique, Aklan, Sultan Kudarat, and the Babuyan Islands, residents should prepare for cloudy skies paired with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. These conditions are brought about by the southwest monsoon, which is known to bring moderate to sometimes heavy rains during its peak. With these rains comes the potential for flash floods or landslides, particularly in low-lying or mountainous areas, so continued vigilance is advised.

For the rest of the country, the forecast is slightly more favorable, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies expected and only isolated rain showers or thunderstorms likely. Even in these areas, however, isolated severe thunderstorms may still lead to localized flooding or landslides, underscoring the need for caution, especially in vulnerable communities.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility is being monitored. According to PAGASA, it currently has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, but weather authorities continue to keep an eye on its movement.

Everyone is encouraged to stay updated through official advisories from DOST-PAGASA as weather conditions may change over the course of the day.
