FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City — The Philippine Army has officially received its newest locally made weapons system, the Controller-Operated Battle Ready Armament (COBRA), marking another step forward in the country’s push for homegrown defense technology.

The turnover ceremony took place at the Armor Division headquarters in Camp O’Donnell, Capas, Tarlac on December 11, 2025, followed by a live capability demonstration witnessed by officials from the Department of National Defense, the Department of Science and Technology, and the Philippine Army.

Army Chief Lt. Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete highlighted the system’s importance, noting its direct impact on troop safety and local innovation. "With COBRA, our soldiers will no longer be exposed to heavy fire when operating heavy weapons. This project is not just a product for national defense. It symbolizes our collective pursuit of a self-reliant posture through science, technology and innovation," he said.

Developed in partnership with the DOST, Project COBRA reflects the military’s ongoing support for the government’s Self-Reliant Defense Posture (SRDP). It also strengthens the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ modernization efforts and its continuing transition to external security operations.
