Bersamin Denies Palace Narrative: 'I Did Not Resign'

MANILA, Philippines — Former Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin is disputing Malacañang’s announcement that he resigned “out of delicadeza,” saying he never filed any resignation letter before the Palace publicized his supposed exit.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News’ Karen Davila, Bersamin firmly stated: “I DID NOT RESIGN.” He also maintained, “I am not the mastermind of anything.”

According to Bersamin, the situation began unfolding on November 17 when a close friend — not an official from Malacañang — informed him that he “had to go” as Executive Secretary. He said he then notified President Marcos via text that he had no problem exiting, but stressed that this was not a resignation letter nor a formal offer to quit.

Hours later, around 2 p.m., the Presidential Communications Office issued a statement saying the President had accepted his voluntary resignation out of delicadeza. Bersamin said this was inaccurate, insisting he had not submitted any resignation letter at that point.

He recounted that when he visited the Office of the Executive Secretary last Tuesday to clear his desk, the only document he signed was a letter acknowledging the President’s prerogative to replace him — a formality completed that afternoon.

Bersamin emphasized that the letter merely stated: “I bow to the prerogative of the President.” He stressed that this was not a resignation letter but a formal acceptance of the President’s decision.

He also rejected the claim that he stepped down to demonstrate delicadeza, saying: “Hindi naman ako linta,” clarifying that leaving was not his decision but a directive relayed to him.

Bersamin reiterated that he did not initiate his departure and maintained that the Palace’s messaging does not reflect what actually happened.
