The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has confirmed that the father-and-son suspects in the deadly Bondi Beach shooting in Sydney, Australia had visited the Philippines weeks before the attack.
According to the BI, Indian national Sajid Akram, 50, and his son, Australian national Naveed Akram, 24, arrived in the Philippines from Sydney on November 1, 2025.
“Sajid Akram, 50 and Naveed Akram, 24 arrived in the Philippines together last November 1, 2025 from Sydney, Australia,” said BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval.
Immigration records show that both men declared Davao City as their final destination and stayed in the country for nearly four weeks.
“Both reported Davao as their final destination. They left the country on November 28, 2025 on a connecting flight from Davao to Manila, with Sydney as their final destination,” Sandoval added.
The BI reiterated the information on Tuesday, December 16, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal Bondi Beach shooting that left several people dead and stunned Australia.
The agency clarified that while the suspects’ travel history has been confirmed, the purpose of their visit to the Philippines remains under investigation. Philippine authorities said there is no confirmed evidence so far linking their stay in the country to any extremist activity.
The BI said it is coordinating closely with Australian authorities as investigations into the suspects’ movements and background continue.
