Bong Go Pushes DPWH: 'Do What's Right, Don't Delay Needed Projects'

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go is calling on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to push through with validated and funded infrastructure projects—especially those in disaster-hit provinces—despite fears sparked by flood control controversies and ongoing investigations within the agency.

Speaking during the Senate interpellation on the DPWH’s 2026 budget on November 25, Go said that while corruption must be addressed head-on, project delays should not punish communities still recovering from floods, earthquakes, and other calamities.

Go emphasized that he fully supports the DPWH’s internal reforms as well as the filing of cases against individuals involved in anomalous practices.

“Mr. President, we support the bold steps made by the secretary in reforming the DPWH at sinusuportahan din natin ang mga hakbang ng ahensya na makasuhan po ang mga sangkot sa mga korapsyon at katiwalian at kapalpakan ng mga proyekto at imprastraktura lalo na sa usapin po ng flood control projects…” he said.

He reminded the agency that accountability must be non-negotiable—while also stressing that legitimate, approved projects should move forward.

“Gawin nyo lang po ang tama at unahin po ang interes ng bayan… Those behind the failed ghost projects must face the consequences in pursuit of justice. Let us hold all those responsible for this mess accountable.”

Go warned that stalling essential infrastructure could hurt residents who urgently need improved facilities, especially in provinces previously devastated by severe flooding and earthquakes.

He pointed out that projects already validated and included in the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA) should not be caught in the crossfire of ongoing investigations.

“Sana po’y yung mga validated at for implementation po na nasa GAA 2025… lalo na po sa mga disaster-stricken area, sana po’y ma-expedite po ito ng DPWH…”

Go cited several areas in the Visayas and Mindanao where damaged infrastructure has yet to be rebuilt due to halted project implementation. According to him, too much hesitation may result in lost opportunities to help communities recover faster.

“Lahat takot, lahat nag-iingat. Pero patapos na po yung taon kaya yung mga magagandang proyekto ay hindi po naiimplement… baka we can get your commitment… ma-implement po ito since two years naman po ang effectivity ng pondo.”

In response, DPWH officials assured the Senate that they will balance their ongoing clean-up efforts with the need to carry out necessary infrastructure projects without compromising accountability.

With investigations ongoing and disaster-stricken regions still waiting for crucial development, Go pressed that the priority must remain clear: protect public funds, punish wrongdoing, but keep life-saving projects moving.
