The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) has announced the early withdrawal of its entire delegation from the ongoing Southeast Asian Games, citing serious safety concerns raised by the families of Cambodian athletes.

In a formal letter addressed to SEA Games Federation CEO Dato’ Seri Chaiyapak Siriwat, the NOCC said the decision was made after repeated requests from worried families urging that their athletes be sent home immediately.

According to the NOCC, ensuring the safety of their athletes has become their top priority, prompting them to arrange the delegation’s prompt return to Cambodia.

The committee emphasized that the decision was not made lightly, stressing their appreciation for the hospitality and sportsmanship extended by the Thailand SEA Games Organizing Committee (THASOC) and the National Olympic Committee of Thailand throughout the team’s stay.

Still, the NOCC apologized for any inconvenience caused by the early exit and expressed gratitude for the understanding and support shown amid the situation.

Cambodian officials said they will coordinate directly with the SEA Games Federation to finalize travel arrangements and all necessary formalities.
