Converge Zeros In On Ginebra Showdown With Eyes On RJ Abarrientos

Converge knows exactly what it needs to do heading into its do-or-die clash with Barangay Ginebra in the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals.
After taking a 105–85 loss to the Gin Kings on Christmas Day, Archie Concepcion admitted the FiberXers have to make big defensive adjustments — especially on one man.
“Mag-aadjust kami sa defense namin. Do’n talaga kami nagkulang, lalo na kay RJ,” said Concepcion, who finished with five points, three rebounds, and two assists.
He added that practice will be all about fine-tuning their coverage.
“Marami pa kaming kailangan gawin sa susunod na practice. Isa siya sa bibigyan namin ng pansin talaga.”
And it’s easy to see why.
RJ Abarrientos torched Converge in Game 1, exploding for a career-high 35 points on top of four assists, three rebounds, and two steals — setting the tone for Ginebra.
For Justin Arana, the FiberXers also need to look inward and stay composed when things get tight.
“Sa do-or-die, dapat ‘di kami magmadali. Kapag nararattle o napre-pressure kami, do’n kami nagco-collapse,” said Arana, who finished with six points and six rebounds.
“Dadahan-dahanin lang namin. Magpe-prepare kami in two days and we’ll see kung ano mangyayari sa Saturday.”
Converge and Ginebra battle one last time on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum, with a coveted semifinals slot on the line — and defending champion San Miguel Beer waiting.
