Filipino Seafarers Soon To Fly Home After Oman Steps In

Good news is finally on the horizon for the nine Filipino seafarers who were held hostage by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced that authorities from the Sultanate of Oman have confirmed the crew’s upcoming release. The sailors from the ill-fated M/V Eternity C will be transferred from Sana’a, Yemen, to Muscat, Oman—bringing them one step closer to home.
Their release didn’t happen overnight. It was the result of steady diplomatic efforts, with Oman working closely with the Philippine government. DFA Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro personally appealed for the seafarers’ freedom during a meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Sayed Badr bin Hamad El-Busaidi back in July, and again in a follow-up call in November.
With the turnover now being arranged, the Philippine Embassy in Muscat and the Migrant Workers Office in the city are preparing for the safe and speedy repatriation of the Filipino crew members.
