Gilas Adds Fresh Firepower As De Liani, Brown Join Training Camp

Gilas Pilipinas is welcoming two new names into its pool as the squad gears up for the opening window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

Coach Tim Cone confirmed that Converge rookie Juan Gomez de Liano has been invited to join the Gilas training pool, while Quentin Millora-Brown is set to suit up for the national team for the first time.

“We’ve invited Juan to practice. It doesn’t automatically mean he’s part of the Final 12, but he will come and join us,” Cone said.

Both players are expected to report when the training camp officially opens Tuesday at the Blue Eagles Gym — and both will be starting from scratch.

“QMB and Juan will be the only ones who don’t know the system. They’ll be starting from ground zero,” Cone explained.

With Gilas set to face Guam on November 28, the team is scheduled to fly out on the 25th. But Cone admitted that ongoing visa problems are affecting the rotation.

The bright side? De Liano already has a working visa, which suddenly makes him a legitimate option for the final roster.

“Right now, we are considering him,” Cone said. “If we continue to have visa issues or, God forbid, someone gets injured, he could very well go. He’s got his visa, and he’s on the list — so he could be part of the 12.”
