On July 14, 2025, the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) delegation honored the courage and sacrifice of Filipino soldiers who fought in the Korean War through a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Korean War Memorial Pylon, Libingan ng mga Bayani, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. The ceremony paid tribute to the brave members of the Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea (PEFTOK), whose service helped defend South Korea’s freedom 75 years ago.
This meaningful event marked the beginning of the ROKA delegation’s three-day engagement with the Philippine Army, aimed at further deepening the Army-to-Army partnership between the two countries. Strengthening this defense cooperation remains a cornerstone of the enduring relationship between the Philippines and South Korea, which established formal diplomatic ties on March 3, 1949.
The Philippines was the first Asian nation to send combat troops to support South Korea at the outbreak of the Korean War on June 25, 1950. Over the decades, this bond forged in battle has grown into robust bilateral cooperation, not just in defense, but also in education, trade, labor, culture, and tourism.
Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony, Philippine Army officials reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to working with like-minded nations in the Indo-Pacific. Such partnerships, they emphasized, are vital to addressing the region’s evolving security challenges with unity and effectiveness.
The tribute at Libingan ng mga Bayani stands as a poignant reminder of shared sacrifice and mutual respect—a legacy that continues to inspire closer ties between the Philippines and South Korea in pursuit of peace and stability in the region.
