Kakao And Sony Team Up To Transform The MMA 2025 Listening Experience

Kakao Entertainment and Sony Corporation have officially joined forces to bring a new level of immersive sound to K-pop fans worldwide, starting with a groundbreaking special stage at the 17th Melon Music Awards (MMA 2025).

Announced on December 17, 2025, the partnership centers on Sony’s innovative immersive audio technology, 360 Reality Audio. Through this collaboration, the two companies plan to explore a range of projects that combine cutting-edge sound technology with K-pop content, offering fans a deeper and more engaging listening experience.

360 Reality Audio is powered by Sony’s object-based 360 Spatial Sound technology, allowing each element of a song—vocals, instruments, sound effects, and even crowd ambience—to be placed precisely within a spherical sound field. The result is a three-dimensional audio experience that makes listeners feel as if they are right inside the performance, hearing the music exactly as the artists intended.

Kakao Entertainment, which operates a multi-label system for music planning, production, and distribution, continues to expand its entertainment ecosystem through platforms like Melon, Korea’s leading music streaming service, and Berriz, a global K-culture fan platform. This partnership with Sony marks another step in its efforts to elevate fan experiences through technology.

The first major outcome of this collaboration will debut at MMA 2025, set to take place on Saturday, December 20, at 5:00 p.m. at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. A special stage utilizing 360 Reality Audio will be streamed online, giving viewers around the world the sensation of being physically present at the venue through immersive, 360-degree sound. Fans are already anticipating which artist will take part in this technology-driven performance.

“We expect that K-pop fans around the world will be able to enjoy a more immersive and multidimensional experience through Sony's 360 Reality Audio,” said Sony Corporation.

Kakao Entertainment shared a similar vision, stating, “Starting with MMA2025, we plan to explore various collaborative opportunities to create global synergy using Sony's innovative technology.”

MMA 2025 remains one of the biggest and most influential K-pop award shows, recognizing artists’ achievements based on Melon’s data, user votes, and expert evaluations. Known for its bold and creative stage productions, the awards show has consistently delivered unforgettable performances—and this year’s collaboration with Sony promises to raise the bar even higher for fans watching around the globe.
