Kira Ellis Battles Illness To Grab Silver At SEA Games

Kira Ellis showed why they call her the Triathlon Queen — even a stomach bug couldn’t stop her. Racing solo after a team illness sidelined a teammate, Ellis pushed through the pain and finished strong to take silver.
The Philippines’ squad was hit by a food-poisoning incident that forced Raven Faith Alcoseba to withdraw from the race entirely, leaving Ellis to go it alone. Still, Ellis turned in a gutsy performance that added another shine to her SEA Games run.
This podium finish is her third at the 33rd SEA Games, coming on the heels of a double-gold performance in Wednesday’s relay events. Clearly, sickness or not, she’s keeping the medal haul coming.
Medal update as of December 19, 2025 — 11:45 a.m., the Philippines still in top 6, sit at 41 golds, 59 silvers, and 126 bronzes — 226 medals in total. Meanwhile, host nation Thailand continues to lead the standings with 197 golds, 130 silvers, and 93 bronzes, a whopping 420 medals overall.
Ellis’s grit today is the kind of story that lifts a whole team — and a nation. If she keeps racing like this, the Triathlon Queen’s name will be one of the ones remembered long after the Games end.
