LTO Suspends License Of Popular Vlogger Over Unsafe Driving Caught On Viral Video

In line with President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s vision of promoting road safety by holding erring motorists accountable, the Land Transportation Office (LTO), under the guidance of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, has suspended the driver’s license of a popular vlogger whose unsafe driving was caught on video and widely shared online.
Acting Assistant Secretary and LTO Chief Greg G. Pua, Jr. explained that the driving behavior shown in the viral video of a social media personality known as Cherry White could have serious consequences, not only for herself but for other road users as well.
“The information we received was that this personality has a strong following on social media, and the video showing her unsafe driving practice is dangerous since it could be misinterpreted that it is okay to do that,” Pua said.
The LTO has issued a show cause order (SCO) to Cherry White, directing her to explain why she should not be held liable for being an “Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle” under Section 27(a) of Republic Act 4136, in connection with reckless driving. She has also been instructed to appear at the LTO Central Office in Quezon City to face the charges.
The video in question showed the vlogger seated in a lounging posture while driving, with one leg raised onto the driver’s seat — an act that appeared careless and disengaged from proper vehicle operation.
“Due to the gravity of the act, the Driver's License No. D19-14-004834 issued to a.k.a. ‘Cherry White’ is hereby preventively suspended for a period of ninety (90) days,” the SCO stated. She has been ordered to surrender her license before her scheduled hearing for the suspension to formally take effect.
In addition to the license suspension, the vehicle used in the viral video has been placed under alarm while the investigation proceeds.
Pua reiterated the agency’s commitment to ensuring road safety, particularly given the influence that social media personalities can have on public behavior. “This case sends a clear message: unsafe driving practices have no place on our roads, regardless of who you are,” he stressed.
