CAGAYAN — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday led the inauguration of the ₱2.3-billion Camalaniugan Bridge, a major infrastructure project expected to significantly improve travel and stimulate economic growth in northern Cagayan.
The President said the bridge is designed to serve as a model for future bridge projects across the country, reflecting the government’s push for faster, safer, and more efficient infrastructure development. He noted that the new crossing will greatly reduce travel time for residents who previously had to take long detours just to cross the Cagayan River.
According to Marcos, the construction of the bridge was accelerated to immediately benefit surrounding communities, particularly by boosting local economic activity. He emphasized that the project is expected to open opportunities for new businesses, generate jobs, and bring faster economic gains to areas on both sides of the river.
The Chief Executive also commended the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for completing the project on time and within budget. He added that aside from improving traffic flow, the bridge was built in accordance with current safety standards to ensure long-term public use.
Marcos further assured the public that government spending on vital infrastructure projects directly benefits Filipinos by improving connectivity and supporting development.
The 2.16-kilometer, two-lane Camalaniugan Bridge now serves as an alternative route to the Magapit Suspension Bridge, which had long been the only river crossing in the northernmost part of Cagayan. With its completion, travel time between Aparri and Ballesteros is expected to drop from around one hour to just 20 minutes, benefiting an estimated 6,000 daily commuters and travelers.
