TOKYO — Nikon Corporation has started construction on new buildings at its subsidiary, Tochigi Nikon Corporation, marking a major step in strengthening the company’s manufacturing capabilities. A ground-breaking ceremony was held on January 7, 2026 to formally launch the project.

Tochigi Nikon serves as a key production hub for high-precision optical components and modules used across the Nikon Group. The new facilities are designed to enhance the production of interchangeable lenses for digital cameras, high-performance microscope objective lenses, semiconductor lithography projection lenses, and various industrial lenses.

According to Nikon, the expansion will introduce upgraded production lines, a mixed-flow manufacturing system, and automated internal logistics. These improvements aim to create a more flexible and efficient production environment that can quickly adapt to shifting business and market demands.

Beyond manufacturing upgrades, the new complex is also designed with people and community in mind. The space connecting the two buildings will encourage employee interaction, featuring open areas filled with natural light for meetings and relaxation to promote collaboration across teams.

Nikon also plans to strengthen its ties with the local community and students by setting up an exhibition area for factory tours and interactive spaces that showcase the appeal of manufacturing. Through these initiatives, the company hopes to build stronger community trust and help nurture the next generation of talent—while reinforcing Tochigi Nikon’s role at the heart of Nikon’s global operations.
