Team Pilipinas delivered another powerful showing at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, stacking up gold medals across weightlifting, practical shooting, and wushu as Filipino athletes dominated competition over the fifth and sixth days of the tournament.
Leading the charge was Paris 2024 Olympian Elreen Ando, who towered over the Women’s Weightlifting 63kg division. Ando secured the Philippines’ second gold of Day 5 with a commanding total lift of 229 kilograms, comfortably ahead of Vietnam’s Thi Thuy Tien Nguyen, who finished with 219kg, and Thailand’s Thanaporn Saetia, who settled for bronze with 218kg. Her performance once again underscored her status as one of the region’s elite lifters and a cornerstone of the national team.
Momentum only grew on Day 6 as four more gold medals poured in from the practical shooting range. Team Pilipinas made a loud statement through the precision and composure of its shooters:
• Rolly Nathaniel Tecson – Men’s Open Standard
• Genesis Pible – Women’s Open Production Optic
• Edcel John Gino – Men’s Open Production Optic
• Erin Mattea Micor – Women’s Open Practical Shooting
Their clean sweep highlighted the country’s rising strength in shooting sports and added a major boost to the overall medal haul.
Adding elegance to power, Jones Llabres Inso delivered another golden moment for the Philippines in Wushu, ruling the Taijiquan and Taijijian events. Fresh off his bronze medal finish at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, Inso proved he belongs among the region’s best by posting a combined score of 19.563—with 9.780 in Taijiquan and 9.783 in Taijijian.
His victory followed Agatha Wong’s earlier triumph, extending the Philippines’ strong run in the discipline.
