Individuals who joined the protests on Sunday, November 16, calling for the resignation of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., may face charges of inciting to sedition, according to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
Remulla stressed that while citizens are entitled to freedom of expression, they also have a responsibility to act with civility, warning that certain actions could be considered dangerous to the state.
The rallies, which drew crowds in multiple cities, focused on issues such as governance, economic policies, and alleged corruption. Authorities reported that the demonstrations remained largely peaceful.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) defended the security measures implemented during the protests, saying their presence was not excessive but necessary to monitor the crowd and ensure the safety of both participants and bystanders.
The government’s warning reflects its position that, while dissent is permitted, actions perceived as threatening national stability may carry legal consequences.
