Samsung Electronics marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a fresh wave of initiatives focused on mobility, inclusion and accessibility across its global operations.
Mapping Communities for Better Mobility
From December 3 to 19, the Device eXperience (DX) Division is leading the Barrier-Free Mapmaking Program, sending employees into local neighborhoods to record ramps, tactile paving, elevators and other accessibility features.
“My grandmother uses a wheelchair… I hope this initiative helps make everyday mobility a little easier,” said Seongmi Lee from the MX Division.
“This project goes beyond mapmaking,” added Yujin Kwak. “It’s a valuable opportunity to… create an environment where everyone can move freely and equally.”
Growing Accessibility Awareness
Samsung is releasing a new global accessibility guide to help employees integrate inclusive practices into hiring, workplace culture and daily operations.
The company also expanded its annual Accessibility Festival Week (AFW) to Europe this year, bringing together teams across development, design and marketing to emphasize inclusive design from the planning stage.
Learning Through Culture
To deepen empathy, Samsung introduced a cultural experience-based disability awareness program, exposing employees to performances by artists with disabilities. Over 8,660 employees have already participated. One attendee shared, “It was the most moving training I’ve experienced since joining the company.”
Supporting Mobility and Employment
The DS Division continues its long-running Love Walk campaign, converting employee steps into donations for mobility devices and eco-friendly vehicles for welfare centers.
Samsung’s subsidiary workplace Stellar Forest now employs 420 people with developmental disabilities across baking and pop-up craft divisions. Volunteers engage them in sports, arts, gardening and more.
“Supporting the growth and independence of colleagues… has been deeply moving,” said a volunteer.
Inclusion in the AI Era
TM Roh, CEO and President of the DX Division, emphasized building AI “with openness and inclusion” so all users can communicate and live independently. Samsung also reaffirmed its commitment to disability inclusion through its membership in The Valuable 500.
