The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong says it hasn’t received any confirmed reports of Filipinos killed or injured in the massive Level 5 fire that tore through a residential complex in Tai Po, New Territories.

Still, officials admit they’re keeping a close eye on unverified information that some Filipino domestic workers might be trapped inside the affected buildings. The Consulate quickly forwarded these reports to Hong Kong authorities so responders can verify and act on them as soon as possible.

Because of the scale and intensity of the blaze, authorities say it may take a while to confirm the full extent of the damage, the number of victims, and their nationalities. Firefighters from the Hong Kong Fire Services Department continue to battle the flames as of this writing.

Meanwhile, the Consulate General is in constant coordination with the Hong Kong Police Force Liaison Bureau and says it’s ready to assist any Filipinos who may need help.

In a statement, the Consulate expressed deep sympathy for the victims and their families, joining the people of Hong Kong in praying for the recovery of the injured and for those who lost their lives in this tragedy.
