The Senate has officially given the green light to the 2026 national budget, ratifying the Bicameral Committee Report on the General Appropriations Bill on Monday, December 29, 2025.

At ₱6.793 trillion, the proposed spending plan puts strong emphasis on everyday concerns of Filipinos—education, healthcare, agriculture, disaster preparedness, and tighter transparency rules in how public funds are spent.

Education takes the biggest share, with a record ₱1.35 trillion allocation, or about 4.4 percent of the country’s gross domestic product. This marks the largest investment in education in Philippine history. Lawmakers said the funding will go toward easing classroom shortages, expanding the School-Based Feeding Program to address student malnutrition, and ensuring that learners have access to textbooks and other learning materials.

Healthcare is also among the top priorities under the budget, reflecting the government’s push to strengthen public health services nationwide. In addition, new transparency measures were built into the spending plan, aimed at improving accountability and restoring public confidence in the budget process.

With Congress’ work done, the 2026 national budget now awaits the President’s signature to become law.
