Severe Tropical Storm Verbena (Koto) is nearing the Kalayaan Islands while maintaining its strength, PAGASA reported in its 5 PM bulletin Wednesday.
As of 4 PM, the storm was 230 km northeast of Pag-asa Island, carrying 95 km/h winds and 115 km/h gusts, moving west at 15 km/h. Strong to storm-force winds extend 450 km from the center.
Signal No. 1 remains raised over the Kalayaan Islands, with minimal to minor wind impacts expected. The amihan surge combined with Verbena will also bring gusty to gale-force winds across Northern and Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Mindoro, and Palawan over the next three days.
Sea travel is dangerous, with very rough seas up to 5.5 meters over Northern Luzon’s seaboards and up to 5 meters near Cagayan and Kalayaan. PAGASA urges all vessels to stay in port.
Verbena is expected to exit PAR tonight or early Thursday, then slow down over the West Philippine Sea while slightly intensifying.
PAGASA’s next update comes at 11 PM.
