Water Bills Set To Go Up In 2026, MWSS Says

Households in Metro Manila and nearby areas should prepare for higher water bills starting in 2026, after the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) confirmed that new water rate adjustments have been approved for implementation.

According to MWSS, both Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Company Inc. are set to apply higher tariffs beginning January next year as part of the approved rate rebasing process. The adjustments will affect residential customers, including households with average monthly water consumption.

MWSS Chief Regulator Patrick Ty said the rate increases have already gone through the required regulatory review and are scheduled to take effect at the start of 2026, barring any changes in implementation timelines.

The agency noted that the adjustments are intended to reflect operational costs, infrastructure investments, and other approved tariff components under the concession agreements.

In an official statement, MWSS confirmed that the concessionaires are authorized to proceed with the new rates, which will apply to customers across their respective service areas.

The announcement has raised concerns among consumers, as households continue to face higher costs for basic goods and utilities, adding pressure to family budgets ahead of the planned rate hike next year.
