What Is PWISI And Who Owns It? A Look At The Company Modernizing Waste Management
FILE
If you’ve been hearing the name PWISI and wondering what it actually does, here’s the simple breakdown.
Prime Integrated Waste Solutions Inc. (PWISI) is a company focused on modern, large-scale waste management in the Philippines. It was established to respond to the growing demand for better waste solutions in fast-growing and highly urbanized cities, where traditional waste disposal methods are no longer enough.
But PWISI does more than just collect garbage.
High-tech waste processing
PWISI operates two of the country’s only automated Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs)—one in Cebu and another in Pampanga. These facilities use state-of-the-art equipment such as vibrating sieves, magnetic separators, and baler systems to efficiently sort, process, and store waste, allowing more materials to be recovered and reused.
In Cebu, PWISI currently processes about 1,000 tons of municipal solid waste every day. Its Pampanga MRF, which was inaugurated in June 2024, has a much larger capacity of up to 5,000 tons per day, making it one of the biggest waste processing facilities in the country.
Who owns PWISI?
PWISI is a subsidiary of Prime Infra, the infrastructure arm of the Razon Group. This places the company under one of the Philippines’ major infrastructure players, alongside businesses in water, energy, and other essential services.
Part of a bigger sustainability push
PWISI’s long-term goal goes beyond reducing landfill waste. The company aims to maximize the value of waste by linking its operations with Prime Infra’s sustainable fuels and clean energy initiatives—turning trash into usable resources while cutting down methane emissions from landfills.
With plans to expand more MRFs nationwide, PWISI is positioning itself as a key player in industrial-scale, technology-driven waste management in the Philippines.
