A joint operation by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the General Luna Municipal Police Station (MPS) led to the arrest of 10 foreign nationals in Siargao as authorities stepped up efforts to enforce Philippine immigration laws.
The operation was carried out on the afternoon of June 26 in General Luna, Surigao del Norte, following a mission order issued by the Bureau of Immigration. It forms part of the government's ongoing campaign to address immigration violations while helping ensure public safety in one of the country's most popular tourist destinations.
According to authorities, those arrested were found to have allegedly committed various immigration violations, including overstaying, engaging in work without the required permits, and being classified as undesirable foreign nationals. The group consists of four Israelis, two Chinese nationals, one Lithuanian, one Australian, one Moroccan, and one Nigerian.
Police said some of those tagged as undesirable aliens had previously been arrested by the General Luna Municipal Police Station for alleged criminal offenses. The reports were later forwarded to the Bureau of Immigration, which initiated deportation proceedings that eventually led to the latest operation.
The arrested individuals are currently under the temporary custody of the General Luna MPS while awaiting transfer to a Bureau of Immigration detention facility. Immigration authorities will handle the filing of appropriate charges and the corresponding deportation process.
Local police reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with national law enforcement agencies to uphold the law, maintain peace and order, and help keep both residents and visitors safe in General Luna.
