3rd Impeachment Rap Filed Against VP Sara Duterte
File
MANILA, Philippines — A third impeachment complaint has been filed against Vice President Sara Duterte, adding another chapter to the growing political tensions surrounding the country’s second-highest official.

On Monday, Feb. 9, Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima, together with several lawyers and religious leaders, formally lodged the new complaint before the House of Representatives. The move comes after earlier impeachment attempts against Duterte, making this the latest effort to push for an investigation into allegations raised by various groups.

According to initial reports, the complaint was submitted to the Office of the Secretary General of the House, marking the third filing connected to the Vice President. Supporters of the complaint said the action reflects their continued call for accountability and transparency in public office, while critics argue that repeated filings risk deepening political divisions.

Impeachment complaints in the Philippines must first be reviewed by the House Committee on Justice to determine whether they are sufficient in form and substance. If the complaint passes the committee level and gains enough support from lawmakers, it may proceed to a Senate trial, where senators act as judges in deciding the outcome.

Political observers note that the filing follows a period of heightened political debate, as previous impeachment efforts involving top government officials have also drawn national attention. The development is expected to trigger renewed discussions among lawmakers and civil society groups about governance, oversight, and constitutional processes.

As of this writing, the Office of the Vice President has yet to release an official statement regarding the latest complaint. Meanwhile, House leaders are expected to announce the next steps in the review process in the coming days.

The filing sets the stage for another potentially contentious political battle, as both supporters and critics prepare to present their respective arguments before Congress. For now, the focus shifts to whether the House will move the complaint forward — a decision that could shape the country’s political landscape in the months ahead.
