The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) has officially ordered its Inspection, Monitoring, and Investigation Service (IMIS) to conduct a parallel and independent investigation into six police officers of the Manila Police District (MPD) recently arrested for their alleged involvement in a robbery in Makati City.

“Let me be very clear: if the allegations are proven true, this is not just a criminal case. It is a gross betrayal of public trust and a direct attack on the integrity of the Philippine National Police. Administrative accountability will proceed side by side with the criminal cases — no delay, no special treatment, and no extension,” said NAPOLCOM Commissioner Rafael Vicente Calinisan.

The arrests took place on January 28, 2026, after victims reported being lured from Malate, Manila, to Barangay San Isidro, Makati, where they were allegedly confronted by armed men who tied them up and stole their belongings before fleeing. The suspects include one staff sergeant and five patrolmen from the Malate Police Station 9 Drug Enforcement Unit.

In response, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Major General Anthony Aberin has relieved the Malate station commander and members of the drug unit, emphasizing that police officers who commit crimes will be removed from service and may face imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the Manila Police District is conducting its own investigation through the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–Investigation Management Division (CIDG‑IMD) to gather evidence and determine the full extent of the officers’ alleged involvement.
