Acidre Urges Senate To Move Forward With VP Duterte Impeachment Trial

With the leadership of the Senate now settled, TINGOG Party-list Rep. Jude Acidre says there should be no more unnecessary delays in the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.
In a statement released Saturday, Acidre, who chairs the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education, expressed hope that the Senate can now move ahead with the case and bring the process to a conclusion through a fair, orderly, and credible hearing.
According to Acidre, dragging out the proceedings would not serve the interests of the Filipino people, especially since the issue has significant implications for public trust in government institutions.
He noted that while citizens may hold differing opinions about the impeachment case, such differences are natural in a democratic society and should not be used as an excuse to slow down or politicize the process.
Acidre stressed that what matters most is allowing the proceedings to continue in a manner that is transparent, impartial, and guided by due process.
He added that completing the impeachment trial would give both sides the opportunity to present their arguments, submit evidence, and address questions that have long been raised before the public.
The lawmaker also emphasized that decisions related to the case should be based on facts, evidence, and the rule of law—not political pressure, public noise, or partisan maneuvering.
Regardless of the outcome, Acidre said the public must be assured that any decision reached by the Senate is the result of a fair and credible process.
He further pointed out that the issue goes beyond the political future of a single official. More importantly, he said, it is about preserving public confidence in the country's laws, democratic institutions, and ability to resolve serious national issues through justice and due process.
