Filipino tennis player Alex Eala bowed out in the first round of the WTA Stuttgart Open after losing to Canada’s Leylah Fernandez, 1-6, 4-6, in their Round of 32 match at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Germany.

Fernandez took early control of the opening set, using aggressive baseline play to build a strong lead and limit Eala’s chances to settle into rhythm. The Filipina managed to get on the scoreboard but struggled to recover as the set went in Fernandez’s favor, 6-1.

In the second set, Eala showed improved resistance, staying competitive in longer rallies and holding serve early. However, Fernandez remained composed in key moments and pulled ahead late before closing out the match in straight sets.

The result ends Eala’s Stuttgart campaign, where she competed in her first main-draw appearance at the event.

Eala is expected to continue her clay-court season on the WTA Tour in upcoming tournaments, including Madrid and Rome, as she builds experience against higher-ranked opponents.

Fernandez advances to the Round of 16 following the victory.
