Filipino tennis star Alexandra Eala is set to begin her singles campaign at the 2026 Indian Wells Open (BNP Paribas Open) with a match against Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska in the Round of 64.

Eala, 20, is currently ranked around No. 32 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings and entered the tournament as one of the seeded players, which earned her a first-round bye into the main draw.

Her opponent, Yastremska (WTA No. 52), earned her spot in the main draw by advancing through her earlier matches and will meet Eala on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Indian Wells in California.

Head-to-Head and Tournament Context

The matchup between Eala and Yastremska is highly anticipated, as both players are familiar competitors on the WTA Tour. Fans are eager to see how Eala performs against the experienced Ukrainian.

The Indian Wells Open is one of the premier events on the WTA Tour — often called the “fifth Grand Slam.” It features top-ranked players such as Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Świątek, Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, and Jessica Pegula.

Significance for Eala

A strong performance against Yastremska could help Eala gain momentum and earn valuable ranking points heading into the North American spring season, which includes major tournaments like the Miami Open. Success at Indian Wells also represents a key step in her bid to become the Philippines’ highest-ranked WTA player in history.
