Apple Unveils New AirTag With Longer Range, Louder Sound

Apple has officially introduced the next-generation AirTag, bringing notable upgrades that make it easier to find lost items—from keys and wallets to luggage and backpacks.

The new AirTag features expanded connectivity range, powered by Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, the same technology used in the iPhone 17 lineup and the latest Apple Watch models. With this upgrade, Precision Finding now works from up to 50 percent farther away, using visual, haptic, and audio cues to guide users straight to their belongings. For the first time, Precision Finding is also available on Apple Watch Series 9 and later, making item tracking even more convenient.

Apple also improved the AirTag’s internal design, making its speaker 50 percent louder and audible from up to twice the distance compared to the previous version. This helps users quickly locate items hidden in hard-to-see places, like between couch cushions or inside bags.

The device continues to rely on Apple’s Find My network, a privacy-focused, crowdsourced system that helps locate items even when they’re out of Bluetooth range. The new AirTag also supports Share Item Location, allowing users to temporarily share an item’s location with trusted third parties such as airlines. According to airline IT provider SITA, this feature has helped reduce baggage delays by 26 percent and cut cases of unrecoverable luggage by 90 percent.

Security and privacy remain central to AirTag’s design. Location data is end-to-end encrypted, and Apple says AirTag includes industry-leading protections against unwanted tracking, such as frequently changing Bluetooth identifiers and cross-platform alerts.

Environmentally, the new AirTag uses 85 percent recycled plastic, 100 percent recycled rare earth elements, and fully recyclable, fiber-based packaging. It keeps the same form factor as earlier models, ensuring compatibility with existing AirTag accessories.

The new AirTag is available now for $29 for a single unit and $99 for a four-pack, with free personalized engraving offered through Apple’s online store and app.
