Several gasoline stations are now under scrutiny after a surprise inspection conducted by the Department of Energy (DOE) in Pasig City on Monday morning, March 9.

According to the DOE, at least 50 gas stations were issued show cause orders after inspectors found possible violations involving fuel pricing. The stations have been given 24 hours to explain why they failed to follow the proper price adjustments being implemented.

The inspection was part of the agency’s effort to ensure that fuel retailers are complying with government regulations, especially amid recent movements in oil prices.

The DOE warned that companies found guilty of violating the rules on fuel price increases could face administrative charges. Authorities said penalties may be imposed on stations that cannot justify why their pump prices did not match the approved rates.

Officials added that the crackdown aims to protect consumers from possible overpricing and to make sure fuel companies follow the correct pricing guidelines.

The agency also reminded gasoline retailers to strictly comply with existing policies to avoid sanctions and maintain fair pricing for motorists.
