BARMM Mourns Death Of Young Athlete At Regional Sports Meet

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — The Bangsamoro Government has expressed deep grief over the passing of an 11-year-old athlete from Lamitan City, Basilan, who was competing in the BARMMAA Meet 2026 held in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte.
In an official statement, BARMM Chief Minister Abdulraof “Sammy Gambar” A. Macacua extended condolences to the family, friends, teammates, and school community of the young Sepak Takraw player.
The regional government described the incident as a profound loss, noting the child’s dedication, perseverance, and role as a representative of Bangsamoro youth in sports.
Authorities said the Bangsamoro Government, through the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) and other concerned offices, is coordinating with event organizers to provide assistance to the bereaved family.
Officials also assured that the welfare and safety of student-athletes remain a priority in all regional sporting events, particularly those involving minors from different areas across the Bangsamoro region.
The government has not yet released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the athlete’s death, but said coordination with relevant authorities is ongoing as part of standard protocol following incidents during official competitions.
