Former Cavite lawmaker Kiko Barzaga defended his positions on several national issues after being expelled from the House of Representatives, saying he has no regrets and would continue fighting what he described as a corrupt political system.
In a social media post following the House action, Barzaga wrote: "For Congress Expulsion today, I have no regrets. I will live for the Filipino People, I will die for the Filipino People! We will bring justice to this corrupt system!"
The expulsion came after months of disciplinary proceedings against Barzaga, who had previously been suspended twice by the House over findings of disorderly conduct and alleged misconduct. The House Ethics Committee earlier recommended the ultimate penalty, citing repeated violations despite previous sanctions.
In a video message released after his expulsion, Barzaga outlined several issues he said were driving his criticism of the government. These included the country's policy toward China, alleged irregularities in flood control spending and the 2025 national budget, growing discussions on Mindanao autonomy, and the impact of inflation on ordinary Filipinos.
Barzaga argued against what he described as efforts to escalate tensions with China over the West Philippine Sea and Taiwan-related issues, warning that the Philippines should avoid actions that could lead to a larger conflict.
He also repeated allegations involving the 2025 national budget and flood control projects. In the video, Barzaga claimed that former Speaker of the House Martin Romualdez was involved in budget anomalies but was not the mastermind, further alleging that former Congressman Zaldy Co and other officials were instructed to support the spending measure. He offered no evidence in the video to support the allegations.
The former lawmaker likewise raised concerns about what he described as growing calls for Mindanao secession, saying the issue deserved broader discussion because of frustrations over governance, resource distribution, and regional development.
On the economy, Barzaga proposed temporarily replacing the Philippine peso with the US dollar, arguing that the move could help address inflation and currency instability. Economists have generally viewed dollarization as a complex policy option because it would limit the country's ability to control monetary policy.
Despite his removal from Congress, Barzaga signaled that he intends to remain active in public debates and continue speaking on issues he believes affect ordinary Filipinos.
The former congressman ended his message by reaffirming his commitment to what he called the pursuit of accountability and reform in government.
