The Bureau of Customs just pulled off its strongest first quarter yet, raking in a record P239.05 billion in collections for the first three months of 2026.

According to Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, the agency didn’t just break records—it also beat its target of P236.06 billion by nearly P3 billion, landing 1.3% above expectations. Compared to the same period last year, collections also climbed by P7.68 billion, or 3.3% higher.

That performance puts early 2026 among the Bureau’s best stretches ever, second only to its record-setting run from July to September 2025—another high point under the current leadership.

Nepomuceno said the numbers speak for themselves: reforms, tighter governance, and modernization efforts are paying off. He stressed that strong revenue collection doesn’t come at the expense of integrity—it actually depends on it.

He also credited the agency’s workforce across ports nationwide, saying their efforts keep collections efficient and within the bounds of the law, ensuring funds go straight to supporting government programs.

The Bureau linked its strong showing to several key drivers, including public auctions of seized goods—especially smuggled luxury vehicles—which turn illegal shipments into revenue. Improved post-clearance audits also helped tighten compliance and make sure correct duties and taxes are paid.

These efforts are anchored on the Bureau’s Integrity, Accountability, and Modernization (IAM) Program, which continues to push for transparency and professionalism across operations.
