BSP Showcases Powerful Environmental Artwork For National Arts Month 2026

In celebration of the 2026 National Arts Month (NAM), the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is putting the spotlight on art with a message. Carrying this year’s theme, “Ani ng Sining: Katotohanan at Giting,” the central bank features Chrisanto Aquino’s compelling piece, Domino Effect Minespill, as part of its cultural showcase.
More than just a visual centerpiece, Domino Effect Minespill tells a timely and thought-provoking story about nature, destruction, and hope.
The artwork presents a dramatic scene where Mother Nature reclaims a once vibrant fortress on the brink of ruin. Built on layers of staircases, the composition symbolizes interconnected paths—how one action leads to another, much like a chain reaction. Each level of the castle guides the viewer toward three maiden guardians embodying the natural elements: lupa (earth), tubig (water), and hangin (wind).
At the heart of the piece is the powerful inscription: KAHARIAN NG KALIKASAN (Mother Nature’s Kingdom).
Through this imagery, Aquino explores the idea that while environmental disasters may appear inevitable—like falling dominoes—human intervention can change the outcome. The artwork suggests that restoration is possible when solutions are grounded in respect for nature and strengthened by indigenous knowledge and connections.
By featuring Domino Effect Minespill, BSP continues its commitment to promoting Filipino creativity and meaningful discourse through art. The exhibit aligns with National Arts Month’s call to celebrate truth and courage—values reflected not only in artistic expression but also in collective responsibility for the environment.
As NAM 2026 unfolds, visitors are invited to reflect on the message behind Aquino’s work: that even in the face of destruction, there remains a path toward renewal—if we choose to take it.
