Capital1 Solar Spikers made a huge statement ahead of the 2026 Premier Volleyball League season after officially bringing in reigning MVPs Vanie Gandler and Erika Santos following the offseason shake-up caused by Cignal HD Spikers stepping away from the league temporarily.
The Solar Spikers unveiled Gandler, Santos, and veteran setter Jaja Maraguinot during a press conference Friday at the GameVille Ball Park.
Gandler and Santos became available after Cignal announced a leave of absence shortly after its runner-up finish in the recent PVL All-Filipino Conference, opening the door for Capital1 to land two of the league’s top offensive stars.
The latest moves signal a more aggressive approach for Capital1, which previously focused on building around rising star Bella Belen. This time, the franchise added proven scorers expected to immediately strengthen the team’s title hopes heading into the new season.
Gandler is coming off a breakout conference where she captured MVP honors after leading Cignal’s deep playoff run. The former Alas Pilipinas standout also shared national team duties with Belen under coach Jorge Souza de Brito.
She finished fourth in scoring during the All-Filipino Conference with 209 total points, highlighted by 182 attacks, 17 blocks, and 10 aces.
Santos also continued her rise as one of the league’s elite scorers after previously winning MVP honors in the PVL On Tour tournament following her transfer from PLDT High Speed Hitters to Cignal.
During the All-Filipino Conference, Santos ranked sixth in scoring with 177 points built on 160 attacks, 12 blocks, and five aces.
Their arrival is expected to solve one of Capital1’s biggest issues from last conference, where the team struggled to generate offense outside of Belen and placed only seventh in spiking efficiency at 28.30 percent.
Meanwhile, Maraguinot adds veteran depth at setter for the Solar Spikers, joining a rotation that already includes Jasmine Nabor, Iris Tolenada, and Nikka Yandoc. The experienced playmaker last suited up for Nxled Chameleons during the Reinforced Conference.
After finishing eighth in the All-Filipino Conference, Capital1 is now hoping its revamped roster can spark a major turnaround when it begins its campaign in the PVL On Tour this June.
